How can I do a manual install of Super Simple Rig?

  1. First, rename the supersimplerig.mzp file to supersimplerig.zip
  2. Extract or open the zip file, and you will find some files and folders inside, the most important is a folder named "_superSimpleRig_install". It should contain three sub-folders called "superSimpleRig", "usericons" and "usermacros".
  3. Find your 3ds Max appdata folder, which should be located under your user folder in Windows. My Max AppData folder is in this location: "C:\Users\Rune\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMax\2014 - 64bit\ENU\".

If you have problems finding the folder, you can open it by running this inside the MaxScript Listener:
    ShellLaunch "Explorer" ((GetDir $userScripts) + "\\..\\")
  4. Now, copy the "superSimpleRig" folder from the zip file into the "scripts" folder.
  5. Copy the files inside the "usericons" folder in the zip file into the "usericons" folder inside your 3ds Max appdata.
  6. Also copy the files inside the "usermacros" folder in the zip file into the "usermacros" folder inside your 3ds Max appdata.
  7. Finally, start 3ds Max and Super Simple Rig should be installed.

  3. Open up the "usericons" folder, and delete the files named "superrune_SSR_16i.bmp" and "superrune_SSR_24.bmp".
  4. Open up the "usermacros" folder and delete the file named "superrune_SSR.mcr".
  5. Finally, restart 3ds Max and Super Simple Rig should be removed!

Is it possible to create a rig without a limb, for example a character with only one foot?

Sure, just delete the locators for that bodypart, and it will not be built. The only part of the body you should not delete is the spine, Super Simple Rig requires a spine to be able to build a valid rig.
