These are two still images from a 2D animation I did after we got Adobe After Effects at Innerloop. I was thrilled by this little program, as it was the first time I could recreate the wonderful multi-plane effects I'd seen in the old Disney movies.
The images are based on two drawings by Kim Hiorthøi from the book Maria & José. A very nice book that I think would make a wonderful short film. These were done without permission, but I hope I'm making his illustrations justice.
