Here is another project I did while at Toxic. People watching films in the cinema are acting more and more like they're watching films at home. This means they are likely to pick up their mobiles if anyone is calling, they are talking loud to one another during the film, and they drop their garbage wherever it suits them. Of course, if you're really interested in movies and actually like to disappear into the mood of the film - all of this is extremely annoying. We were asked by FILM&KINO if we could come up with an idea for some small piece of animations before the movies that could tell the audience to behave a bit.
After presenting a bunch of ideas, FILM&KINO (together with all theatre heads in Norway) picked this one: A theatre full of people misbehaving badly, ending with the text "Keep your bad habits to yourself, turn off your mobiles and throw garbage at the exits". Simple and to the point. I finally got to some more character animations, and the films turned out to be great fun to both produce and watch.
Apart from the fact that the biggest cinema chain in Norway, the cinemas in Oslo, decided to chicken out when they saw the finished films. They found our cartoony characters extremely offensive, and I quote: "These films will never ever be shown in our theatres, they are highly offensive!". Strangely enough the rest of the country is showing them and enjoying them.
Well, anyone who finds burping offensive should probably not be watching films anyway. Or maybe even be around human beings. So before you view these films, please be aware that they contain gross human behaviour expressively animated in order to offense you, your family, your pets and everything in your fridge. You have been warned!!

We had several script ideas in this concept, some were quite outrageous (in a non-offensive way) and had great humour potentional, but sadly the client picked the most conservative ones. It's a shame, since I think that humour is the best way of communicating a message that would otherwise sound preachy. And being preachy is something you must avoid when talking to an audience, especially young people. But despite the slightly preachy done the films turned out very nice, and looks and sound great in a theater (outside Oslo).
