With the support of Nintendo America, six of us split out from Funcom in 1996 to start our own company. Initially we were to be a norwegian branch of DMA Designs, but financial issues at DMA left us starting an independent company instead. (Ironically, DMA Designs released Grand Theft Auto a couple of years later - no more financial issues for them!) We called the company Innerloop, and since our programmers had come up with a nice 3D fractal landscape engine, we decided to do a flight simulator.
A year or so later we released Joint Strike Fighter, a moderately successful action flight simulator. I was the main 3D artist on the project, and did most of the in-game graphics as well as some presentation art. Here are some of the images used in the game.
I don't know if anyone actually saw the image on the top of this page; the "end of game picture". The game was pretty hard, so you had to be a good at the controls to complete it. Well, I spent an entire day doing the image, so it's only fair that someone get to see it :)
Notice the whip on the general's back, a sneaky military commentary right there!

The two previous images were concept images for the Joint Strike Fighter sequel, which was supposed to feature carrier-based versions of the planes. In these images I tried to emulate the airbrush style of actual Military concept art I found on the internet.
As most hi-res artwork for JSF, the images were based on 3D renders. I rendered my models out in 3D Studio Max, or did screen grabs inside the game itself. I then loaded these images into Photoshop and painted on top of them.

I did four desktop wallpapers for the Eidos marketing division to put on their website. That's one of them above.
Finally, below are some of the game over screens from the game. Watch in horror as communists lay your towns in ruins!
